District of Columbia Gambling and Lotteries Laws

Jurisdictions (mainly states) are divided with respect to gambling laws and what is considered lawful, while most states and the District of Columbia now operate some kind of official lottery. Washington, D.C. gambling laws are relatively strict and do not allow casino-style games such as poker ("card rooms" are prohibited), slot machines, and other such games of change. However, D.C.'s lottery laws allow a variety of games of chance for those over the age of 18, while those under 18 may be gifted a lottery ticket and collect the prize if they win.
