Hawaii Gambling and Lottery Laws
Welcome to FindLaw's section on gambling and state lotteries in the Aloha State, which are quite restrictive compared to other states. Bucking the trend of states adopting lotteries as a way to generate revenue, the Aloha State still prohibits them under its gambling statute. With respect to gambling in general, Hawaii does not allow gambling on horse or dog races, casino-style gaming (such as roulette, slot machines, or craps), or most other venues. The law also prohibits gambling on ships within Hawaii's water boundaries. Social gambling, however, is permitted as long as it's done in a private residence.
