Illinois Business Laws
Businesses are regulated at both the federal and state levels. While federal laws provide a basis for employee rights, environmental protection, taxes, securities and other matters, state laws also address many of these matters and more. For instance, Illinois is one of several states that enforce non-compete agreements with employees, which other states have found to be unenforceable. Illinois also prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, which is not prohibited under federal labor laws. This section covers a wide variety of Illinois business laws, including corporation laws, securities fraud, employment laws, deceptive trade practices, and more.
