Do you have a legal issue, but can’t afford to hire an attorney? There are many free or low-cost legal service options for residents in the "Big Friendly." The main ways are through legal assistance programs such as the Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, a nonprofit law firm providing free legal aid to low-income residents and seniors, or through the law school clinics. There may be income limits that apply for you to qualify for free/low-cost help. Contact the specific agency to learn more. Below is a list of several organizations available to help you.
Areas of Law: Discrimination, Election and Voting, Freedom Speech, Freedom of Religion, Immigration Rights, LGBT Rights, Privacy, Police Practices, Jail and Prison Conditions, and other issues of fair treatment by government.
Good to Know: The ACLU does not usually assist in the following types of cases: criminal defense or post-conviction appeals, divorce or child custody disputes, property disputes, tax problems, workers compensation issues, consumer complaints, landlord-tenant disputes, building code issues and complaints about lawyers or judges. Good to Know: This is a statewide service providing assistance and referrals to legal service agencies. Call to learn intake procedures.
Areas of Law: Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault
Good to Know: YMCA provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Programs include Crisis Services, hospital advocacy, shelter, counseling, support groups, and an empowerment program. They will also help you fill out court forms and accompany you to court.

Good to Know: This organization provides free legal representation for low-income persons. They do not assist with prisoners/detainees who are serving prison sentences; employment-based cases; and persons with a criminal record.

Good to Know: This organization provides immigration assistance to low-income and underserved residents of Oklahoma.
Areas of Law: Civil, Tax, Native American legal issues
Good to Know: This organization assists Native Americans in civil cases that are connected to their Native American status. There is limited assistance for the general public.

Good to Know: This is a low-cost legal service. They have set rates for routine matters. They do not handle criminal matters, bankruptcy, or general family law issues.
