South Dakota Gambling and Lotteries Laws

Gambling -- and the prospect of striking it rich -- has a long and storied history in the United States. And in South Dakota, the historic "Wild West" town of Deadwood is the only place in the state other than Native American reservations where you'll find a casino. Other types of gambling allowed under state law include poker, horse racing, bingo, and betting on sports competitions. The state also operates an official state lottery, with proceeds earmarked for the construction and maintenance of prisons and other correctional facilities.
